Euro 2025: Tears for Italy and hope for the future after emotional semifinals loss to England
There were tears, distress and disbelief for Italy's players after a 2-1 loss to England after extra time in the Women’s European Championship semifinals.
The Euro 2025 prize money more than doubled compared with the previous tournament. The 16 teams shared €41 million, with each federation receiving at least €1.8 million and required to allocate a minimum of 30% to the players. The champions stand to earn up to €5.1 million.
England is currently gunning for its second straight Women's Euro title, having won the 2022 tournament with another pair of extra-time wins. If Germany advances on Wednesday, it will be the same pair of teams in the final as well, but clearly nothing is going to be predictable given how some of these teams are playing.
