The Mariners were supposed to be the team dragging through this American League Championship Series, forced to grind out an extra-inning epic just for the privilege of flying across the country and taking on a well-rested Blue Jays powerhouse.
So much for the Seattle Mariners getting a slow start after that 15-inning marathon in ALDS Game 5. Instead, the Mariners took Game 1 of the ALCS over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, a 3-1 win ( box score ). Cal Raleigh homered and Jorge Polanco drove in the other two runs, while Seattle pitching allowed just a leadoff home run to George Springer.
Julio Rodríguez and Jorge Polanco hit three-run homers, Josh Naylor added a two-run drive and the Seattle Mariners took a 2-0 lead in the AL Championship Series by routing the Toronto Blue Jays 10-3.
Jorge Polanco had two homers and scored another run and the Mariners are up 2-0 on the Blue Jays in the ALCS with Monday's win. Julio Rodriguez had a three-run shot in the first inning to give the Mariners an early lead, while Josh Naylor had a two-run blast in the seventh.
