An earthquake was reported Friday near Paramus in Bergen County, New Jersey. Initial reports from the U.S. Geological Survey indicate a 2.4 magnitude quake hit shortly before 1:30 p.m. The USGS reporting tool shows people experienced "light" to "moderate" effects.

Bergen County’s Office of Consumer Protection is warning residents to be alert for a deceptive piece of mail that appears to come from the county. The letter appears to come from Bergen County’s Home Improvement Program and talks about a warranty.

The magnitude 2.4 earthquake was centered near Paramus, according to the USGS, and occurred around 1 p.m. It comes more than nine months after a magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook Tewksbury Township and surrounding areas.
