An air quality statement is in effect for Toronto and the surrounding region as wildfire smoke continues to drift south, Environment Canada says.

On Monday morning, Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement for the vast majority of southern Ontario, predicting "poor air quality" as a result of forest fires.

A stretch of southern Ontario remains under a special air quality statement today amid smoke from wildfires burning in parts of the country. Environment Canada says smoke from forest fires can cause reduced air quality and visibility that can fluctuate throughout the day.
