The "Super Scooper" was dropping 1,500 gallons of desperately needed water at a time on the inferno below until it was damaged by the drone.

A firefighting plane has been grounded in California after it was hit by a civilian-flown drone. The Los Angeles Fire Department said on X, formerly Twitter, this SuperScooper plane was flying over the Palisades fire when it collided with a drone that was not assigned to the fire.

This happened as L.A. fights its worst wildfire in history, burning thousands of homes and killing at least 10. The drone collision forced the plane to abort its mission and touch down elsewhere for repairs. Photos of the plane show a noticeable hole in one of its wings:
