The race also saw a major shift in the championship standings, as McLaren's Oscar Piastri moved 22 points clear at the top after teammate Lando Norris collided with him and was forced to retire.

Mercedes' George Russell headed McLaren's Lando Norris in Friday practice at the Canadian Grand Prix. Russell was 0.028 seconds faster than Norris, with the second Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli 0.288secs slower than his team-mate in third place.
