Japan said on Tuesday the trade agreement it struck with the U.S. cleared uncertainties on U.S. trade policies but continued attention needs to be given to risks of those policies putting downward pressure on the Japanese economy.

President Trump has challenged conventional trade policy, and the U.S. is agreeing to deals with the European Union, Japan and others. Whether America comes out ahead depends in part on what the details of the tariff agreements turn out to be.
