A young man is facing murder charges in the shooting death of legendary former football coach John Beam on the Laney College campus.

Cedric Irving Jr., 27, of Oakland, has been charged with the murder of John Beam, a well-known football coach in Oakland who was shot to death last week.

John Beam's legacy, captured in part on Netflix's "Last Chance U," is in the lives of the players he coached over a 45-year career on the field.
