Norris crashed himself out of the race when he inexplicably tried to pass McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri for fourth place with less than five laps left. Norris got past Piastri in the hairpin, but Piastri was able to get back alongside on the corner exit and won the drag race down the main straightaway until the final chicane.
After briefly overtaking him with a divebomb at Turn 10, Piastri regained the position on the run down to the final chicane after maximising the slipstream and DRS from Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli ahead.
