KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda discharged on Tuesday the last eight patients who recovered from Ebola , health authorities reported, and there were no other positive cases in the outbreak declared last month. World Health Organization described the recoveries as a milestone that “reflects the power of Uganda’s quick and coordinated response.”

Uganda has discharged eight people after they recovered from Ebola although at least 265 contacts remain under quarantine, its health minister said.

The lone fatality from the latest outbreak was a male nurse who died the day before the outbreak was declared in Kampala on Jan. 30

Eight patients treated for Ebola in Uganda have recovered, the country's health minister said on Wednesday, declaring the country's latest outbreak of the deadly disease "contained".

This is the eighth Ebola outbreak in Uganda since the first infection was recorded in 2000. The Sudan Ebola Virus Disease (SUDV) is a highly infectious haemorrhagic fever which is transmitted through contact with infected bodily fluids and tissues.
