According to the maps on WXCharts the snow will arrive in the North in the early hours of Sunday and the white patches show it covering parts of West and North Yorkshire from around 6am. It will continue but looks to have fizzled out by midday. The latest snow comes after Storm Goretti caused chaos on Friday.
The Met Office has issued a “risk to life” weather warning as snow is set to blanket the UK, with blizzards set to hit some areas. Weather alerts in parts of Scotland have been upgraded from yellow to amber by the forecaster, while yellow warnings are in place elsewhere as people face a wintry start to the new year.
The Met Office is urging UK homeowners to ensure they have a sufficient stock of various household essentials readily available, as harsher weather is on the way. It has been an incredibly cold start to the week, with temperatures plunging close to freezing, triggering snow and ice across much of the country.
The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings, one for wind in the south west of England between 3pm and midnight on Thursday, and another for snow in the East Midlands, the West Midlands, London, the East, the South East, Yorkshire, the North West, the South West and large parts of Wales.
A weather warning for ice is in place for Greater Manchester today with a further snow and ice warning issued for Sunday
The Met Office has confirmed that 2025 was the UK’s warmest since records began in 1884. The mean average temperature for the country across 2025 was 10.09C, beating the previous record of 10.03C set just three years earlier in 2022.
An amber weather warning for snow has been issued. It will be in force between 3am and 2pm across Scotland.
