Joe Flacco showed he can save the Bengals' season, but the veteran QB only has three days to do it
Flacco was certainly an upgrade at quarterback over Browning and he proved that he might be able to save their season, but the problem is that he's only going to have three days to do it. The 2-5 Bengals will be hosting the 4-1 Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night in what is essentially a must-win game for Cincinnati.
"Right now there's no continuity on offense," CBS analyst Trent Green said of the Bengals during the second quarter. "Just the one first down."
CINCINNATI — If Joe Flacco ends up playing poorly like he has most of this decade, don't say the Bengals didn't try in their search for quartterback help. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport broke down the days leading up to Flacco's trade to Cincinnati and how extensive Cincinnati's search was to boost the position.
Besides Carr, there were several other notable names the Bengals inquired about, including Houston's Davis Mills and Philadelphia's Sam Howell. There were also a few notable names the Bengals did NOT attempt to trade for, including Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston .
The Cincinnati Bengals went on a big search for quarterback help this week before landing on the deal to acquire Joe Flacco. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, some fan theories were true: The Bengals even reached out to retired quarterback Derek Carr.

Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco’s message to his new team as losing streak reaches four games
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Despite a spirited second-half comeback by new quarterback Joe Flacco, the Bengals are now on a four-game losing streak after Sunday’s 27-18 loss at Green Bay.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Bengals' QB search involved "calling nearly all teams" with three QBs or a viable practice-squad option.
Per Rapoport, the Bengals' "exhaustive" search involved "calling nearly all teams with three quarterbacks or a viable practice squad option," which led them to inquire about Texans' QB2 Davis Mills, Eagles' QB3 Sam Howell and even former Saints QB Derek Carr, who retired over the offseason.
The Bengals are 2-3, and if they want any chance at being playoff-ready by the time Burrow returns, there needs to be a major shakeup at the quarterback position. The AFC is loaded with talented teams, and Cincinnati is arguably one of those teams.
Joe Burrow sustained a Grade 3 turf toe injury during the second quarter of the Bengals' Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 14.
