Boston is set to kick off the coming week with a cold and windy storm system, before heading into a batch of gusty and chilly but dry late fall weather, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

Heavy rain fell in the Boston area on Wednesday as a cold front moved in, leaving hundreds of people without power across the state. In a morning advisory, the National Weather Service said there were downpours in Boston, moderate rain in communities such as Beverly and Bedford, and light rain in Lawrence, Norwood, and Taunton.
