AFC East standings: How Bills' loss puts Patriots atop division for first time in four years
The Miami Dolphins (1-5) and New York Jets (0-6) are both far removed from AFC East contention and playoff contention, leaving the Patriots and Bills fighting for the top spot. New England and Buffalo both share a 4-2 record, but the Patriots hold the head-to-head tiebreaker at least for the moment because of their victory over the Bills.
Buffalo is off to a 2-0 start after its rollicking comeback win over the Ravens and a shellacking of the Jets. The Bills are looking to stake out an early claim for the top spot in the AFC, and given the way they're playing, it wouldn't be a surprise if they eventually wound up with the No. 1 seed by year's end.
Bills remain near the top of NFL rankings despite missing key defensive players like Matt Milano and Ed Oliver, with most outlets keeping them second behind Philadelphia.
With the Bills being favored by 12 1/2 points, the biggest question is if Miami will cover the huge spread in what could be Mike McDaniel’s final game.
