Week 9 of the college football season saw some notable changes in ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI). The FPI is a computer-based system that calculates rankings based on strength of schedule and both offensive and defensive efficiency. After the action in Week 9, several teams got boosts after big wins.
The Bearcats grabbed a nice leap off a 41-20 beating of Baylor. At 7-1, Cincinnati now has FPI's third best shot at winning the Big 12 (12.7%) and a correspondingly growing shot at the CFP (13.7%).
Florida's Billy Napier and Colorado State's Jay Norvell were fired Sunday, and more changes could arrive before Halloween. There's noise at Auburn and Florida State after late-game collapses, and Wisconsin's brass is quietly evaluating Luke Fickell after back-to-back home shutouts.
The other three coaches, barring changes, will be San Diego State’s Sean Lewis (third season), Boise State’s Spencer Danielson (fourth) and Texas State’s G.J. Kinne (fourth). The specifics differ from campus to campus but the turnover follows the same fundamental framework: The urgency to take advantage of the new era in college football.

The University of Houston moved into college football's Top 25 rankings Sunday for the first time in more than three years. Off to a 7-1 start after a 24-16 upset of Arizona State, the Cougars were No.
