Snow has been reported as far south as Marion and Lamar counties in north-central Alabama. The weather service in Birmingham said the Birmingham International Airport was reporting a mix of sleet and rain. The rest of the state is expected to get only a cold rain today.

But that snowfall is expected to be limited to Cape Cod and the Islands, with the highest accumulations — between 2 and 5 inches — to fall on Nantucket. Martha’s Vineyard and the Cape should see about 1 to 3 inches. Some snowfall is also possible along the very immediate South Coast and parts of Plymouth County.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Thursday on Nantucket, which is expected to get hit hardest by the storm. Cape Cod, the South Shore and South Coast are also expected to get some accumulation Thursday,
