The Chicago Cubs have missed out on another free agent, with outfielder Austin Hays signing with their hated rival, the Chicago White Sox.

The Houston Astros are bringing in a former Chicago Cubs veteran left-hander to compete for a job in spring training.

Chicago Cubs fans got some big news ahead of the World Baseball Classic this week, and one of their stars is going to be playing.

During an appearance on MLB Network, MLB insider Jon Heyman noted that the Cubs are interested in starting pitching and tabbed the Cubs as a potential suitor for former All-Star pitcher Zac Gallen. Gallen has the qualifying offer attached to him, perhaps complicating things.

Ultimately, the goal is to build a team good enough to capture a division title, secure a first-round bye and win the World Series.

Chicago made some big moves this offseason and they are now the No.2 team in baseball.
