The source of an explosion is still unknown as firefighters responded to a residential area in Las Cruces.

A fire broke out at Chalmette Refining Friday afternoon after residents reported hearing a large explosion, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office. The fire was under control as of around 2 p.m., and no injuries were reported, John Rahaim, director of St. Bernard Homeland Security, said.

An explosion rocked a residential neighborhood Thursday morning around 11 a.m. Las Cruces Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a structure fire near Fairway Dr. to reports of flames engulfing a structure.

The blaze ignited in the basement of a metal building in Mariners Harbor around 3:30 p.m., with the massive explosion erupting about 50 minutes later, fire officials said.
