Alexander Ortiz was arrested last year in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Alianna Farfan, according to police.

Carlos Lucero and Pete Ysasi attacked Alexander Ortiz, accused of murdering Lucero’s niece, in a viral courtroom brawl. The incident escalated despite attempts by security to intervene, resulting in injuries to corrections officers.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A hearing for a person accused of murder turned into a brawl in New Mexico. Alexander Ortiz is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Alianna Farfan last year. He was standing before a district judge in Albuquerque on January 31 when a brawl broke out.

Courtroom video shows the fight that was sparked by a murder victim's uncle against the suspect in New Mexico.

"He took something away from us," victim's mother said. "My most important person and it's just hard for all of us."

According to KOAT, Albuquerque man Alexander Ortiz stands accused of murdering 23-year-old Alianna Farfan last January and was facing the judge in front of Farfan's uncle Carlos Lucero. Police say Lucero suddenly jumped over the courtroom gate and began to punch Ortiz, causing the alleged murderer and an officer next to him to fall to the ground.

The victim’s uncle leaped over a barrier and attacked the defendant, setting off a brawl during a routine hearing in Albuquerque last week that was captured on video.
