The San Francisco 49ers might be turning back the clock by interviewing former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh for their open defensive coordinator position. Saleh left the exact role with the 49ers following the 2020 season to become the Jets coach.

Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has completed an interview for the San Francisco 49er's vacant defensive coordinator position, the team announced Thursday. The front office also met with Detroit Lions defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator Deshea Townsend.

After moving on from Gus Bradley following the 2024 regular season, the Indianapolis Colts’ first reported defensive coordinator interviews to fill that role have been announced. Under Bradley, there’s no question that the Colts defense underperformed, ranking in the bottom-third of the NFL in scoring during all three years of his tenure.
