Virginia State Police (VSP) has urged drivers to stay off the roads after sharing the number of accidents and injuries reported throughout Virginia.

SUNDAY: Sleet will continue tracking into northern Virginia. Sleet will change to freezing rain (liquid rain falling and freezing on impact, creating ice) from south to north. A major ice event is expected, and widespread power outages may occur. Highs in the 20s.

Police say, “Drivers should stay off the roads now through the day Sunday and into Monday morning. If you are on the roads, give VDOT trucks and emergency crews room to do their jobs. Also understand that storm impacts could delay emergency response to stranded motorists.”
