Amanda Anisimova fought past Iga Swiatek 6-7(3) 6-4 6-2 in a winner-takes-all match at the WTA Finals on Wednesday to join Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals and stay in the hunt for a first crown on her debut in the season-ending championship.
Iga Swiatek is out of the WTA Finals after picking up a 7-6 (3) 4-6 2-6 loss to Amanda Anisimova in a match that was a direct battle for the last semifinal spot from Serena Williams Group.
Swiatek falls to 62-16 on the season, while Rybakina improves to 54-20 on the year. Moreover, she has won 10 of her last 11 matches, with the lone loss coming against the top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the Wuhan Open quarterfinal.
Anisimova handed Swiatek a second straight loss from a set ahead to take the semifinal spot, 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2.
Elena Rybakina went a perfect 3-3 in the group stage at the WTA Finals after delivering another good display and ousting alternate Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4 6-4.
