COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s national title defense will come with a new face running the defense. The Buckeyes are losing defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. After three seasons in Columbus, he’s leaving to serve as Penn State’s defensive coordinator, according to multiple reports.

The Ohio State Buckeyes finished the season with a national championship, cementing head coach Ryan Day's status as one of the top coaches in college football. Day was joined by a pair of veteran assistants in offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.

Knowles, a Philadelphia native with strong ties to the Northeast, transformed the Buckeyes' defense during an impressive three-year stint. Ohio State ranked top three in total defense each of the past two seasons and led the nation by holding opponents to 254.6 yards per game and 4.2 yards per play during a historic campaign.
