According to unofficial election night results made available by the city of Fairbanks, O’Neall received 1,808 votes (54 percent) and Pruhs received 1,528 votes (45.7 percent). Newsweek has contacted Pruhs and O'Neall for comment via emails sent outside regular business hours.

Most of Alaska’s local governments will hold municipal elections on Oct. 7, and voting has already begun in many places.

Democratic Fairbanks Sen. Scott Kawasaki violated ethics law by holding constituent events too close to the 2024 state primary, a panel of the Alaska Legislature concluded in a report published Friday.

According to preliminary election results, Knackstedt was elected Kenai’s new mayor on Tuesday with 461 votes. Douthit received 326, and there were five write-ins. On Wednesday, Knackstedt thanked Douthit for the “clean, gentleman’s race that the voters observed.”

This year’s ballot features three propositions, four candidates running for three open seats on the Assembly and four candidates running for three seats on the school board. One write-in candidate for school board is not featured on the ballot.

The complaint alleged the election guide statement violates the law because it promotes Kirk’s political beliefs.
