Multiple people were rescued after mudslides engulfed roadways in Southern California on Thursday, trapping occupants in their vehicles, Cal Fire said.

Firefighters on Thursday (March 13) responded to the scene of multiple mudslides and mired vehicles across a road in San Jacinto, California after heavy rain.

In Sierra Madre, residents were building wooden walls outside their yards and packing up their cars to leave Wednesday as they braced for possible mudslides with this week's storm — facing mandatory evacuations that will extend into Thursday.

The City of Sierra Madre issued evacuation orders and warnings Wednesday for several areas in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains as a storm system is expected to move in.
