LONDON (AP) — Papal thriller “ Conclave ” leads the race for the 78th British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, with genre-bending musical “ Emilia Pérez ” facing a test of whether a multi-pronged backlash has made the former prize favorite an awards-season pariah.

The papal drama “Conclave” has been named the best film of 2024 at the EE BAFTA Film Awards, which took place on Sunday in London.
