Tuesday's incident comes on the heels of a 3.0-magnitude earthquake in Bergen County's Hasbrouck Heights Saturday night that rattled parts of New Jersey and New York. Saturday night's earthquake was felt up to 65 miles away, in parts of New York's Lower Hudson Valley and western Connecticut.

However, the Garden State has been something of a hotbed of seismic activity this week. On Tuesday, for the second day in a row, an earthquake hit New Jersey, with residents in the northern part of the state--and even New York City--feeling the quake.

A second minor earthquake has rattled the New York metropolitan area within several days. The 2.7 magnitude quake struck Tuesday afternoon near Hillsdale, New Jersey, northwest of the Bronx.
