Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan thought she was getting “cancelled” when her agent called her to tell her she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. The Galway native was nominated Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work on Bridgerton at the awards on Sunday night.

In the Best Actress category, Coughlan will compete against Kathy Bates ( Matlock ), Allison Janney ( The Diplomat ), Keri Russell (also The Diplomat ), and Anna Sawai ( Shōgun ). The nod appears to have come as something of a surprise; when the nominations were announced last month, she wrote, “I’m absolutely in shock and so honoured.”
