The M23 Southbound is closed from J9 (Gatwick Airport) to J10 A264 Copthorne Way (Crawley) with queues forming down towards J8 ( M25 ). Some motorists remain trapped in the closure and the road has been closed since around 10.10.

The M23 is closed between Gatwick Airport and Crawley due to a crash involving four vehicles. There are severe delays on the southbound carriageway between junctions nine and ten following the crash, which was reported at about 10:30 GMT on Wednesday.

Closures on the M23 caused travel chaos for motorists travelling close to Gatwick Airport, with miles of congestion building up around where the crash happened. Surrey Police warned motorists to try to avoid the area today as ongoing delays and two miles of congestion continue to impact the region.
