If women needed gynecological care at an all-female prison in southern California, their only option was to see the sole gynecologist on staff — a doctor now accused of sexually and physically abusing scores of patients.

A lawsuit filed this week alleges that the only full-time gynecologist at the California Institution for Women in Chino subjected women to abusive procedures and unwanted exams, with other medical staff and prison officials accused of failing to take action despite red flags.

Six women along with the California Coalition of Women Prisoners have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a prison gynecologist, and various officials with responsibility for overseeing the doctor,
