Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 carrying 242 people, crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad on its way to London.

Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London's Gatwick Airport, crashed into a residential area called Meghani Nagar five minutes after taking off at 1:38 p.m. local time, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the directorate of civil aviation, told The Associated Press.

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane, operated by Air India, crashed in Ahmedabad earlier this week, killing almost everyone on board and many more on the ground. India's aviation watchdog has since ordered the carrier to complete safety checks on its entire Dreamliner fleet.
