The Safeway strike in Colorado is rolling out in bits and pieces. Workers in Grand Junction joined the picket line on Tuesday, temporarily shutting down the store. A spokesperson for Safeway said the store is expected to reopen by 4 p.m. today, including the pharmacy.

Employees at a Denver Safeway location walked off the job on Monday, joining their fellow workers on strike. ‘I was crying, I was a mess,’ Moises Sotelo-Casas’s daughter says. ‘He was in chains at his feet’

The union representing Safeway store employees in Colorado has given the required 72-hour notice that the strike is set to begin one minute before midnight on Sunday.

On Sunday, four stores went on strike including stores in Estes Park, Pueblo and Fountain, as well as a distribution center in Denver.

The tenuous labor peace between unionized grocery workers and Colorado's biggest supermarket chains may give way to picket lines outside stores.
