Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman announced on Tuesday plans to provide $500,000 in emergency funds to the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.

"It's shameful for the government to have been shut down," Feenstra said in a Food Bank of Iowa tour. "It really is, and it puts people in a pinch."

Gov. Lee said Second Harvest Food Bank will receive most of the $5 million in funding, which will be distributed within the next few days.

As the federal government shutdown continues, food banks and community organizations are under more pressure to meet the increased need for food assistance and resources. Dallas County commissioners approved a $1 million donation to the North Texas Food Bank to help address that need.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced she will use the state’s emergency fund to support food banks across Alabama as the federal government shutdown has suspended SNAP benefits. The governor will release $2 million to support eight food banks,

The additional 40,000 pounds of food Lisa Ansell Frazier ordered in October for the Buffalo Youth Nation Project will stock food lodges onsite at four Wind River Reservation schools through December.

The sustainability of this is all going to depend on the federal government... The food banks are not to come in and fill a gap.”
