The active shooter alert that forced Villanova University students to shelter in place on Thursday was a result of a cruel hoax," according to President Rev. Peter Donohue.

A Villanova University residence hall was evacuated on Sunday morning after authorities were notified of an unspecified threat.

Dylan Johnson, a student editor for Villanova Sports, posted a video on X at approximately 4:45 p.m. ET of a frantic scene that showed students and faculty near Austin Hall on Villanova's main campus after an alert was sent out for an active shooter.
