Around 1,800 protests are set to coincide with President Trump's military parade in Washington, D.C. yet none planned in the U.S. capital. Here's why.

From Silver Spring and Bethesda and Gaithersburg in Maryland, to Fairfax and Falls Church and Arlington in Virginia, people throughout the region came out for “ No Kings Day of Defiiance ” protests. (There was not a “No Kings” protest in DC itself, but there was a march from Logan Circle to the White House organized by Refuse Fascism .)

On Saturday, a military parade will end with fireworks to mark the Army's 250th anniversary, which also happens to coincide with President Donald Trump's birthday and Flag Day. The 'No Kings' protest are set to counter what organizers say are Trump's plans to feed his ego on his 79th birthday.

"No Kings" protests against President Donald Trump’s policies are scheduled in nearly 2,000 cities across the U.S. Saturday as a military parade rolls in Washington for the Army’s 250th anniversary – which is also Flag Day and Trump’s birthday.

“The most threatening sound to an oligarch is laughter.”

The Houston demonstration is one of several planned in the region throughout the day and is expected to draw thousands of protesters.
