Following the Windows 11 version 24H2 launch, Microsoft warns some users that installing future updates may become problematic.

Microsoft released a security update (KB5044284) for Windows 11 version 24H2. This update or updates released later have been installed correctly for those who installed Windows 11 24H2 via Windows Update or Media Creation Tool.

With the public launch of Windows version 24H2 last year came a security issue that was only 'resolved' this week. Those who installed Windows 11 from a media file using the October or November version of the software seemingly can't access any future security updates, and the solution is a fresh install of just the Windows OS.

Back in October last year, we reported about a new third-party utility called Flyby11 that allows users to bypass the Windows 11 system requirements check including on version 24H2.

Microsoft advises reinstalling Windows 11 24H2 using media containing the December 2024 security update (released December 10) or later.
