Texas County, largest of Missouri’s 114 counties, comprises 1179 square miles of Ozark Highland. With the same name as the second largest of the fifty states, it exceeds the smallest, Rhode Island.

The assessor’s job is to place a value on all taxable real and personal property within the county as of January 1, this is the assessment date set by the state statute. All county Assessor’s offices are regulated and overseen by the Missouri State Tax Commission.

The Texas County Sheriff’s Office is entrusted with enforcing the law and preserving the peace in the largest county in the state of Missouri. Texas County is comprised of over 1000 miles of county-maintained gravel roads, numerous forestry roads as well as paved roads.

The County Clerk maintains a permanent record of the proceedings of the County Commission (formerly the County Court), the governing body of Texas County. These records date back to 1845, the year Texas County was organized.
