A giant clam (Gigas maxima) is a species of bivalve mollusk that is the largest of all living clam on earth, growing up to 4.8 feet (1.5 meters) long and reaching up to a whopping 500 pounds (227 kilograms) in weight. The giant clam is native to the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and is typically found in very shallow lagoons and coral reefs.
