This Scene shows Irish political leaders Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith outside Longford Cathedral in Ireland on June 21, 1922. Both men were key figures in the Irish War of Independence and were part of the Irish delegation that negotiated the Anglo-Irish Treaty in 1921. The treaty led to the creation of the Irish Free State but also caused a split in the Irish nationalist movement, leading to the Irish Civil War. Tragically, both men died within nine weeks of this photograph being taken.
