Horrific witch trials took place throughout Scotland in the 16th and 17th centuries many of which happened in Culross. Culross is the former home of Sir George Bruce, who supported the local witch trials in the 16th Century. A campaign called “Witches of Scotland” was launched in 2020. It was a campaign for legal pardons and historic justice for the people, primarily women, convicted of witchcraft and executed in Scotland between 1563 and 1736.
