On December 27, 1892, in a snow-dusted field in Salisbury, North Carolina, the first HBCU football game took place. The matchup featured Biddle College (now Johnson C. Smith University) against Livingstone College. The players traveled by horse-drawn wagon and wore uniforms sewn by students from the industrial department at Livingstone.
